＊ウェールマンは捕鯨者。これも冒頭部分と同じでバリエーションがあり、ウェラーマンになっていることが多い。ウェラーマンはニュージーランドの捕鯨業で財を成した兄弟のことで、この船乗りたちの雇用主だ。船長が捕鯨者としての信条でクジラを狩ろうとしていたのか、ウェラーマンの「仕事を遂行する」という信条で狩っていたのか、今はもう分からない。
